One of the most challenging obstacles to independence is having a home that is truly accessible. Even the most accessible homes still need to be customized based on an individual’s needs. Home modifications such as ramps, accessible bathrooms, and functional kitchens are critical for turning a house into a home.

ROADS TO FREEDOM WILL HELP BUILD A TEAM AROUND YOUR HOME MODIFICATION PROJECT

Landlords – Landlords are required by law to allow a tenant with disabilities to make reasonable modifications to their unit. They are not obligated to pay for any modifications. Additionally, they can request approval of the modification, and may also require the tenant to restore the unit to its original condition upon leaving.

RTF can advocate with your landlord to make sure they understand their responsibilities, and also their rights. A cooperative relationship with the landlord is always valuable.

Contractors – Identifying contractors with experience in home modifications is important. Some payment sources may require the contractor to process paperwork and accept payments on their schedule. It’s important to work with your contractor to ensure the work gets done on time, with high-quality outcomes, and the contractor gets paid.
Pest Eradication addresses pest infestations that, if not treated, would create a risk to the individual’s health or safety.

Services may include pest control treatment(s) or products that may assist the individual in pest eradication (e.g., traps, pest control sprays, cleaning supplies).

Pest Eradication Services are intended to aid in maintaining an environment free of insects, rodents, and other potential disease carriers to enhance the safety, sanitation, and cleanliness of the individual's residence.

The following are some tips and best practices to help individuals maintain a pest-free living environment:

Regular cleaning and maintenance: Keep your living space clean, organized, and free of clutter, as this discourages pests from making your property their home. Regularly clean your kitchen, especially spills and crumbs, and store food items and waste in tightly sealed containers.

Seal entry points: Carefully inspect the property for any cracks, crevices, or holes that could serve as entry points for pests. Inform the property owner of necessary repairs, as they are generally responsible for maintaining the building's structure.

Monitor the property: Regularly check for signs of pests, such as droppings, discarded exoskeletons, and damage to furniture or belongings. Early detection helps prevent large-scale infestations.
